Psychotherapeutic Services for Individuals, Couples and Families

Dr. Appell offers a wide range of psychotherapeutic services to assist with individual, relationship and family issues. She works with children, adolescents, adults of all ages, couples and families including relationship enhancement, divorce therapy, reunfication therapy and therapy with stepfamilies.

Individual Therapy

Dr. Appell provides a safe, confidential place to discuss concerns and work out problems. She uses an eclectic approach that involves listening, guidance and cognitive behavioral strategies for individuals of all ages. She has extensive training and experience in working with children and adolescents as well as adults.

Couple Therapy

Couple therapy assists couples to enhance their relationship and/or to facilitate communication.

Relationship Enhancement

Dr. Appell assists couples to understand the dynamics of their relationship and to learn ways to behave differently so as to provide increased couple satisfaction.

Divorce/Separation Therapy

Dr. Appell assists couples in their decision making regarding whether to end a relationship. When there is a decision to divorce, Dr. Appell assists couples to move through the divorce process smoothly and in a manner that facilitates children’s adjustment.

Family Therapy

Dr. Appell addresses the dynamics of intact, divorced and remarried families to address maladaptive patterns and to develop healthy family relationships that promote adaptation and growth for all family members. Dr. is able to provide competent intervention in specialized areas including:

Reunification Therapy

Dr. Appell also works with adult family members who have been astranged from one another.

Dr. Appell works with families in which children have been estranged from a parent due to problematic divorce dynamics, parental alienation, family polarization, and/or other family events in an effort to foster healthy parent-child relationships.

Stepfamily Therapy

Stepfamilies and blended families can be complicated. Dr. Appell helps these families to confront complex parenting issues and enhance the adjustment of all family members.
